Awakening Moments at Shiva Tattva Yoga Ashram

The boundaries between my body and the space around me seemed to fade away. My weight melted into the ground as if the earth itself was holding me. My palms touched the soft soil, and I could sense the nurturing moisture beneath. Roots grew from within me, anchoring me deeply, reaching upward toward the sun, strong enough to withstand storms. What began as a fragile sprout expanded into a tree that touched the skies, blossoming with flowers and fruits, while my mind found stillness and awareness. I became one with nature.

Before this state of awareness, I was in the garden with fellow students and our yoga teacher. We were reflecting on the essence of stillness—how to be present without being lost in thought. Within moments, lying in Savasana, I entered a state beyond words. It was here I realized the true depth of yoga. Being at Shiva Tattva Yoga Teacher Training in Rishikesh magnified my practice and pulled me out of the ordinary, planting me in a climate of love and conscious growth.

The Himalayan sun warmed my practice, the natural spring reminded me of purity, the mountain breeze shifted my perspective, and even a butterfly hovering nearby became my teacher of focus. I discovered myself.

Shiva Tattva constantly reminded me to breathe deeply and live fully in the present moment. Between the walks from my room to the yoga shala, I found unexpected freedom. That is why I believe Shiva Tattva is not just a school—it is a lifelong investment for anyone seeking the true path of yoga.

A Space That Nurtures Energy and Awareness

Learning yoga requires more than classrooms—it requires space to breathe, expand, and connect. Enclosed spaces limit awareness, but an environment aligned with nature magnifies practice.

Shiva Tattva Yoga School is set on peaceful land surrounded by lush greenery and Himalayan serenity. The moment you enter, you are greeted by a divine statue of Lord Shiva, symbolizing the cosmic Self—the eternal space and consciousness. Bowing here becomes the first step of the journey. Walking further, the corridor opens to vibrant gardens, representing the grounding element of earth, where life blossoms like the hopeful blades of grass.

The residential spaces are open, airy, and filled with natural light. Spacious rooms accommodate students with comfort while keeping them connected to nature. Moving forward, the sacred Havan Kunda (fire altar) stands as a reminder of the transformative energy of fire. Each sunrise, we gather here to offer prayers, cleansing not just the air but also our inner being. Nearby stands the Yoga Shala—a wide, open space with glass walls overlooking nature, fully equipped with mats and props. Here, nature’s sounds blend with guided practices, enhancing awareness.

A short walk leads to the natural spring, flowing gently, symbolizing water—the source of clarity and renewal. Down the path is the open-air dining space, serving fresh sattvic meals prepared with love. The nourishing food purifies both body and mind, keeping the practitioner balanced.

The ashram embraces all five elements—space, earth, fire, water, and air—creating an environment where learning goes deeper than books. The serene design, natural surroundings, and mindful details make Shiva Tattva a sanctuary for self-reflection, healing, and yogic living.

Teachers Who Guide, Mentor, and Inspire

Yoga is a lifelong journey, and the teacher is the light that guides the path. At Shiva Tattva, we follow the principle of “One Teacher per Subject” to ensure depth, clarity, and authentic understanding. Each teacher is highly qualified, with years of experience in their field, offering more than just lessons—they share a way of life.

Through their guidance, I didn’t just practice postures but understood the subtleties of breath, alignment, and awareness. The Adjustment and Alignment classes helped me refine every asana, teaching me how to move safely and effectively while respecting my body.

What makes the teachers unique is their patience and intuition. They knew exactly when to challenge me and when to let me rest. The classes were interactive, filled with activities, discussions, and even joyful games that made learning engaging. In Teaching Methodology sessions, I was encouraged to design and conduct my own classes, preparing me to guide others with confidence.

The mentorship went beyond the mat—it was about building discipline, clarity, and resilience. By the end of my training, I realized that my teachers had not just taught yoga techniques, but had helped me evolve into a yoga teacher who could carry forward this tradition with authenticity.

Today, I stand as one voice among many students of Shiva Tattva, grateful for the profound transformation I experienced here. The ashram, the teachers, and the community shaped me into who I am—a true seeker and now, a guide for others.

“Om Namah Shivaya.”
